Apparently, Matthew McConaughey turned down a Guardians of the Galaxy 2 villain role. It’s unclear why he might’ve turned it down, though as Uproxx points out, it’s likely Marvel tried to sign him up for a multi-movie contract. That’s par for the course for the entertainment company, as they so often like to keep actors in the stable—though some want to stick around longer than Marvel may be willing to keep them (lookin’ at you, Chris Evans).
While it sucks to see McConaughey say no to the role, as he’d most likely make an amazing villain, he said he’s still open to the right part if it comes along. Can’t blame a guy for being picky, especially when he’s rolling in upcoming releases.
In addition to this, there’s another neat bit of Guardians 2 casting news: actress Pom Klementieff, who was featured in Spike Lee’s Oldboy remake, has just been cast for the upcoming flick. No news yet on who she might be playing, though according to various sources, she’s taking on “a key role.” Begin rampant speculation!
