Game of Thrones‘ Brienne, Gwendoline Christie, joins the cast of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 as Commander Lyme.

Christie replaces Lily Rabe, previously cast in the role. Once the shooting schedule of the movie (set to release in November of 2015) was finalized it became clear that it would conflict with Rabe’s previous commitment to appear in Shakespeare in the Park’s Much Ado About Nothing this summer. A new actress was needed for the part, and we now know that Gwendoline Christie is it.

Lyme is one of the leaders of District 13, the district in the futuristic Panem that is rebelling against the government. She hails from District 2 is a past victor of an unknown Hunger Games.

As a District 2 Victor, Lyme would have been a mentor of some of Katniss and Peeta’s most fearsome Hunger Games competitors. In the books she is a key part of wrenching the district away from Capitol control. Much like Christie’s Game of Thrones character, Lyme is described as having an “unforgettable” face. That’s a pretty interesting sort of role for an actress to be typecast in, ironic, even, for a lady who was at one time called too pretty to play Brienne of Tarth.

Naturally this is pretty exciting news for folks who are fans of both The Hunger Games and Game of Thrones… and hopefully Lily Rabe won’t take it to personally if we get really excited.
