Variety is reporting that Parks and Rec executive producer Harris Wittels was found dead today at his home in L.A. of a possible drug overdose.
In addition to his work on Parks and Rec, the comedian wrote and produced The Sarah Silverman Program, Eastbound and Down and Secret Girlfriend. In recent months he spoke publicly about his struggles with drug addiction, mentioning them on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast last September.
Although I wasn’t familiar with Wittels’ work outside of Parks and Rec, I know his work on that series has comforted and cheered me at times when I needed it the most, and that few things in the world make me laugh more sincerely than this scene:
Don’t know what to say. Harris Wittels was a fantastic writer I had the pleasure to work with at Parks and Rec. So so sad. RIP Harris.

You should know that Harris was brilliant beyond compare. That his imagination was without limit. That he loved comedy more than anything.

That his heart was big and he FELT hard. That he was someone who would reach out to tell you he was thinking of you for no particular reason

RIP Harris Wittels.
