You read that headline right: Helen Mirren will be joining the Fast and the Furious crew for Fast 8. She has, in the past, mentioned that she’d love to be in The Fast and The Furious, and I guess this just goes to show that when you’re Helen Mirren, you need only ask to get what you want. She shared the news in Elle, then she added, “I’ve always rather loved driving. I said, ‘I’ll be in it, but only if I’m allowed to drive if I do drive in it.’ But we’ll see. We’ll see how it transpires.”

Mirren could absolutely kick it with the best of them. She’s got her own history with action flicks–check out her work on REDRED 2, for crying out loud. It’ll be a straight up pleasure to see her on screen alongside Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, and the entire Fast crew. There aren’t too many plot details out yet, so we’re not sure exactly what to expect from this iteration of the franchise, but having Mirren won’t hurt a thing.

All that being said, I really hope she remains a recurring character in the movies, because the idea of a Mirren-type character rolling around in a souped-up convertible blowing things up is something that I’d pay many dollars to see. For a long time. For however long she’s there. Dollars, friend.
