It’s been over a year since we started talking to you all about Hellboy 3; in fact, it was right around Comic-Con 2011. But with another year, there’s even further hope that more plans have been made, maybe even more drafts written. And alas, Guillermo Del Toro and Ron Perlman have given us a shred of hope that this movie may actually happen. In fact, it may be more than a shred; hell, it may be a glimmer, or a full-on ray, considering they’re both now on record as saying they’re committed to bringing this thing to the big screen.

Del Toro revealed this little piece of info during an interview both he and Perlman gave to Entertainment Weekly. More specifically, he said “I can say publicly that now we are together in trying [to do ‘Hellboy 3’],” a statement which Perlman echoed.

The duo also acknowledged that it was Perlman’s recent return to the character for a Make-a-Wish Foundation visit with a young boy that reignited the flame in their hearts; a sign, if you will, that it was about damn time to revisit the project. Here’s what del Toro said:

“I’ve encountered a lot of kids who are fans of the movies, but to hear the story of this kid who was watching the movies while going through treatment, it really just moved me a lot…We’re going to make an effort to do it. I hope it happens.”

And here’s what Perlman said of the arc of the films themselves:

“The [first] two movies were really set up to have this unbelievable resolve. Everything that was done in both movies was leading up to this destiny, written in stone, of what Hellboy has been summoned to Earth to do. To not do it, particularly in light of the scope that Guillermo is thinking of for the resolve, would be in my mind a little bit of a shame.”

These all seem like positive signs to us! Granted, it may still take eons for these two to actually act on it, but at least we still know they want to. We have to wait forever for Arrested Development to actually take the steps to returning to us, but that’s finally happening, so for now we’ll keep this filed under good omens of things to come.
