Wow. I did not see that coming, did you?

On last night’s series finale of How I Met Your Maru, things didn’t go quite as planned. [SPOILERS for HIMYM finale!]

In the episode, titled “Last Fur-ever,” fan fears were brought to light as we realized Maru had been a Cyrano de Bergerac! The character our other lead characters had been obsessing over for nine years really had no talent at all and was just putting on a show. The real talent was Grumpy Cat, pulling the playful strings from the background the whole time.

Needless to say, fans were pissed.

So how did we leave things? Maru was left to becoming an internet footnote, barely a blip on the Wikipedia radar. Grumpy Cat? She went on to film heartwarming videos shared the world ’round with the person behind the camera, in love with her the whole time…
