The Hollywood Reporter writes that Robert Downey Jr. has completed a round of negotiations with Marvel that will see him appear in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and possibly other installments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well (in addition to his preexisting standalone deals for the Avengers:Infinity Wars films).
It’s been rumored for some time now that Downey might play a significant role in Homecoming, but this is the first time it’s been officially confirmed. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly last week, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige promised that multiple Marvel heroes would make an appearance in the movie (“He [Spider-Man] is in the universe now, and the fun of the universe is that characters go back and forth”), so we can probably expect to hear more casting announcements like this one soon. Joe Russo joked with Entertainment Weekly that those character cameos might include an appearance from “Great Lakes Avengers,” but sadly, I don’t think we should hold our breath for that. Although it would actually be pretty rad…
Spider-Man: Homecoming stars Tom Holland as the ickle baby webslinger, Marissa Tomei as Aunt May, Zendaya as a female lead named “Michelle,” Tony Revolori as “Manuel,” and One Life to Live‘s Laura Harrier in a still-unnamed part. It’s slated for release July 7th, 2017.
