Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel in Marvel Comics

How to Read the ‘Ms. Marvel’ Comics in Order

She embiggens my soul.

The next entry into the MCU premieres next month on Disney Plus. Ms. Marvel will tell the story of Kamala Khan (not Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers) and her fun adventures becoming a teenage superhero. Created by Sana Amanat, Stephen Wacker, G. Willow Wilson, Adrian Alphona, and Jamie McKelvie, Kamala debuted in 2013 and was the first Muslim character to headline a Marvel comic book. Unlike many other characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Khan has a relatively short comic history.

With that in mind, it is entirely possible to read every comic book featuring Ms. Khan before the show comes out. Now, there already is some controversy over Kamala’s power changes, but I am hoping they keep the core character the same. In the comics, Kamala is so adorable and nerdy you can’t help but love her. Plus, she is a fangirl who writes superhero fanfiction so many of us can relate.

Here is a list of Kamala Khan’s major appearances in order, so you can fall in love too.

Ms. Marvel’s Comics

Captain Marvel (2013) #14 and #17 – First appearances without a name or powers, but gives a background on her admiration for Captain Marvel.

Ms. Marvel (2014-2019) – Kamala Khan’s origin story and first series.

All-New, All-Different Avengers (2016) – Ms. Marvel joined the Avengers as a regular team member.

Champions (2016) – All the teen superheroes formed a team.

Secret Warriors (2017-2018) – Component of the Secret Empire Marvel event.

Marvel Rising (2018) – Several side stories featuring Ms. Marvel and Squirrel Girl. Marvel created this series for all ages and it is very cute.

Magnificent Ms. Marvel (2019-2021) – The new solo series launched with a new title after the previous series.

Outlawed (2020) – One-shot that covered the introduction of Kamala’s Law and outlawing underaged superheroes.

Champions (2020-2021) – Picks up right after Outlawed.

Ms. Marvel: Beyond the Limit (2021-Current) – Kamala is back doing what she does best.
