When it comes to powerful, gripping graphic novels, I Kill Giants is right up there with the best of them. Released in 2008, it felt like only a matter of time before it got made into a movie. Now, seven years later, it makes me so happy to say that Zoe Saldana will be starring in this graphic novel adaptation alongside Madison Wolfe (The Astronaut Wives Club, True Detective). According to Variety, filming is set to begin in 2016.

For those of you who don’t know, I Kill Giants is about a young girl named Barbara who slays giants—at least, so she’d like to believe. She finds herself escaping into a fantasy life to get away from some incredibly harsh realities of her own. Saldana plays a psychologist who tries to understand Barbara in an attempt to help her deal with her problems.

If you haven’t read the graphic novel, I’d recommend you go and check it out soon. The story, written by Joe Kelly, packs a real emotional wallop, which is perfectly complemented by the incredibly stylistic art from J. M. Ken Niimura.
