It doesn’t surprise us in the least, but it’s good to see Ian McShane filling out the role of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise’s first actual historical pirate character. The real Blackbeard probably didn’t have such an intricate control over his ship’s rigging, but he did coat the ends of his beard in pitch so he could light it on fire in battle to freak people out.
