Just as Marvel releases some details about their revamped Phase 3, Disney/Pixar goes ahead and reveals the release date of one of their own superhero movies: The Incredibles 2. According to Variety, the Pixar movie about the superpowered family is slated to hit theaters on June 21st, 2019. Of course, Brad Bird will be directing, so you can expect a lot of the same heart that made the first one so successful.
While there still aren’t too many concrete details, we know from an earlier report that Bird is hoping to focus on what made the first movie so successful: the characters and their relationships to each other. To him, that’s what set The Incredibles apart from the few superhero movies that were in existence at the time.
Bird’s got his work cut out for him–The Incredibles 2 has to find its place against a backdrop of a Hollywood completely flooded with superhero movies. This is going to be a long four years.
