Did you skip the iPhone 4 last year and stick with your regular dumbphone, only to regret the decision, but find that it was probably too late to jump on the iPhone 4 bandwagon, telling yourself that you’ll wait until the iPhone 5 next year? I’m not the only one, right? Reaching the end of September with no official announcement so far, have you now realized that jumping on the iPhone 4 bandwagon a few months late wouldn’t have been late at all? Well, AllThingsD is reporting that if you hold out for just another month, you’ll be able to snag that pretty iPhone 5, then immediately drop it at the gym the next day and have to get it replaced.

Sources say Apple will be holding its next major event on October 4, which will not only unveil the iPhone 5, but will be the first event hosted by Apple’s new CEO, Tim Cook, which will make it a much bigger deal than a simple iPhone iteration announcement. Will Apple have the same magic without Steve Jobs’ black turtleneck? Will Tim Cook forget about something, then at the end of the show say, “Oh, and one more thing” before he pulls out some new device? Sources also claim that the iPhone 5 will be made available for purchase only a few weeks after the official unveil, which would put the release date sometime in the middle of October, which would be a couple of weeks later than previously reported. Only time will tell when the iPhone  5 will be released, so be sure to protect that flip phone for a few more weeks before you precariously talk on it, holding it with only a few fingers, while standing over the sink or toilet.
