Issa Rae’s HBO show Insecure, partially based on her web series Awkward Black Girl, is coming back with a new season. In a teaser posted to Rae’s YouTube channel, we see all our favorite characters in an appropriately summery street. They’re not there for too long though, as it’s all a day-dream from the endearingly clumsy Issa as she’s caught in traffic.
Each episode in season one ended with “as Fuck” and it appears there’ll be a new pattern as each episode in season two will begin with “Hella,” with the first two titled “Hella Great” and “Hella Questions.” I, too, have hella questions since we last left off with Lawrence moving out and their couch (which makes a reappearance) sitting on the curb.
According to the teaser, Issa will spend the season hella confused and hella tempted as she navigates the love triangle between her, Lawrence, and Daniel—one of the main conflicts of season one. She’ll also be hella lit with her group of friends as we’ll no doubt spend a lot of time following Molly’s quest for romance as well. The friendship between the two is one of the best dynamics in the show, and it’ll be interesting to see how that changes if Issa and Lawrence are truly over (though we know it’ll never just be that easy) and the two of them are single.
Insecure returns to HBO July 23 at 10:30 pm. Will you be watching?
