The news about Youtube star and author Issa Rae’s Insecure first came out in 2013, and HBO is finally moving forward with the comedy series written by and starring Rae! Larry Wilmore is also her co-creator and co-writer.

Making Insecure didn’t happen without challenges. Rae has spoken about the obstacles that come with making a show with complex characters of color that would also hire writers of color. Her unwillingness to water down her vision and her perseverance make this news even more exciting, and I can’t wait to see the pilot.

Deadline gives us the synopsis, and I’m glad to hear we’ll be seeing Rae on the screen, especially considering the fact that certain studios wanted to recast her as a “lighter-skinned actress.” Insecure will follow “the friendship of two modern-day black women, Issa (Rae) and Molly (Yvonne Orji) and all of their uncomfortable experiences and racy tribulations.”

I’ll probably marathon Awkward Black Girl to prepare. Will you be watching Insecure?
