If The Dark Tower was a disappointment to Stephen King fans, it looks like It will give them something to be happy about this year—once they get over the resurgence of their coulrophobia. If early reactions are anything to go by (admittedly not reliably), It delivers not only on the scares you’d expect, but on a surprising amount of humor and heart, as well, for a well-rounded movie experience.
We haven’t seen it yet, but here’s what other members of the press had to say about their initial impressions:
So… the new #It. It’s really, really good. I loved it. Scary, fun, a proper rollercoaster-type adventure horror movie. Get very excited. pic.twitter.com/0JR1pkbMY3

#ITMovie is everything I hoped for & more. Has heart, laughs & TONS of incredible scares. Fell in love w/ The Losers. Didn’t want it to end.

I love the #ITMovie. It’s everything I wanted. Scary as shit, Skarsgard nails Pennywise, and the Losers are perfection.

LOVED #ItMovie. Captured the spirit of the book & still created something new. Perfect combo of dark & fun. & The Losers Club was PERFECT! 👌 pic.twitter.com/ipkKlAORyt

IT was terrifying and hilarious and delightful, so we’re deciding to see how this thing goes. #ITMovie pic.twitter.com/FI6zuvki3h

#IT definitely captures frights of the novel whilst adding a new fears. Major set pieces are bone-chilling -even summons a splash of tears

Sadly, the reviews aren’t all good, even from critics who were happy with the film overall, so brace yourself for some trouble spots:
And there’s a complete fumble with how the film handles one of the Losers near the end

On the other hand, it’s good to hear that the movie stands on its own, apart from the source material and previous TV adaptation, so it might just exceed expectations.
And as a public service announcement for the new #It movie: you don’t need to read King’s book to properly enjoy It. Or see the “original”. pic.twitter.com/Wz1RXYiHls

Oh and IT’s going to make *so much* money. ALL THE MONEY. I’ll bet it blows past projections.
