With Chapter 2 almost here, brace yourself for more John Wick in the future. According to reports, director Chad Stahelski is interested in exploring the titular character’s backstory even more with a TV adaptation.

He revealed that he originally wanted to do a prequel but, as Indiewire reported, “it just didn’t fit quite” where they are with the story now. “We basically almost have a prequel written, but we’d save that for other aspects of the property,” he told SlashFilm. The script was written by screenwriter Derek Kolstad, who previously worked on both films.

While a movie might be out of the question, it looks like TV is next medium for Mr. Wick. “Lionsgate is very interested in doing a John Wick TV show,” Stahelski added. However, it won’t be coming any time soon seeing as both Stahelski and Kolstad are busy preparing for the release of Chapter 2 and developing the third film of their trilogy. “We’d like to wrap up the story we’re telling now and maybe save all our prequel ideas and impossible task ideas for that medium.”

I don’t know if it’s the reboot/remake fatigue talking, but I’m not into the idea of a TV series. For one, who knows if Keanu Reeves would even be up for it and he’s the only Wick I accept on screen right now. Also, why can’t we just enjoy the project as a finite thing? Not every piece of pop culture needs to be recycled and shuffled around until it’s nearly unrecognizable from its original form.

Besides, I like my semi-retired hitmen with a little mystery. How about you?
