Looks like J.J. Abrams loves Karl Urban as much as the rest of us. Not hard to believe. The dude’s Bones and Eomer. If there’s someone out there who doesn’t like him then I don’t want to know about it.

Called Human, the show is “an action-packed buddy-cop show set in the near future, when all LAPD officers are partnered with highly evolved humanlike androids.” Urban will play the cop, “who has shut down emotionally after a tragic mission that claimed the lives of nine of his fellow elite officers and left him critically injured.” Well, Urban does have experience playing emotionless lawmen. The RoboCop, meanwhile, will be played by Michael Ealy. I am so looking forward to some Kirk-and-Bones-style bickering, you don’t even know.

Also joining the show are Lili Taylor as the police captain, plus Minka Kelly, Mackenzie Crook, and Michael Irby. It’s being developed by Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions along with Fringe creator J.H. Wyman, who’s also on writing duty. Brad Anderson (Fringe, The Machinist) is on board to direct.

The description makes it sound like a fairly basic buddy cop comedy, just… with a robot. That isn’t enough to grab me, though Urban’s presence helps. I hope it turns out to be less generic than it sounds. We do only have very, very basic info so far, after all.
