Kim Dotcom, the founder of MegaUpload, is quite possibly the most interesting man in the world. I don’t know if he drinks Dos Equis, but I do know his last name is Dotcom (originally the more boring “Schmitz”), he owns giant giraffe statues, and was — at least as of yesterday — the top ranked Modern Warfare 3 player in the world, even since being jailed last Thursday on charges of conspiracy to commit racketeering, conspiracy to commit copyright infringement, and conspiracy to commit money laundering among many, many other things. I mean, what?
Dotcom took the title late last year, even documenting the achievement with a relatively well-produced video including a time-lapse of him playing for hours. His stats, under the name “MEGARACER,” include 180,980 kills in total, 9.05 million points, and a respectable kill-death ration of 2.1. Granted, his ranking is probably going to be falling fast considering he won’t have an opportunity to play any time soon, but still, it’s an impressive feat and one that speaks to exactly how much time he must have had on his hands.
If nothing else, this serves as terrific evidence to support the fact that even if you think you know the whole MegaUpload story, you’re probably wrong. Sure, you can read the 72 page MegaUpload indictment, and dig as much as you want to, but it looks like Kim Dotcom will always have a multitude of secrets just waiting to be uncovered. What’s that? He’s a master of Ju Jitsu? He’s fluent in Esperanto? He’s achieved Nirvana? I wouldn’t be surprised.
