“The blood of House El will always bind us together.” In a new teaser, DC Comics and SyFy unveiled a first look at the world of Krypton in their upcoming show about the El lineage and legacy. Headed by executive producer David S. Goyer (writer of Man of Steel) and showrunner Damian Kindler, Krypton is a prequel that will dive into the history and alien origins of the iconic hero we all know.
The synopsis reads:
“Set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home planet, Krypton follows Superman’s grandfather (Cameron Cuffe, The Halcyon)—whose House of El was ostracized and shamed—as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos.”
Cameron Cuffe stars as Seyg-El, Superman’s grandfather, Ian McElhinney will play Val-El, Georgina Campbell as Lyta Zod, and Ann Ogbomo as Alura Zod. The cast also includes Elliot Cowan, Rasmus Hardiker, Wallis Day, and Aaron Pierre. The most exciting of the cast for me is Ogbomo, who recently made an appearance in Wonder Woman as one of the badass Amazons on Themyscira. Hopefully, she’ll get an opportunity to show off those skills in Krypton.
To be fully honest, I’m not sure if Superman is a priority or novelty for the vast amount of superhero content we’re seeing out there right now, but that might change by the time the show comes out. Krypton premieres in 2018 on SYFY, are you going to check it out?
