LAIKA Animation has made a remarkable space for itself in the film and animation industry over the last decade with films like Coraline and ParaNorman. To celebrate, LAIKA released a retrospective video that captures the overlapping themes between the studio’s journey and the stories they tell. “Conventional wisdom says this wouldn’t and shouldn’t work,” says Travis Knight, “but here we are.”
I could honestly watch the artistry behind stop-motion footage forever because the incredible amount of labor and detail never ceases to blow my mind. There’s also some more footage from Kubo and the Two Strings that we didn’t see in the trailer. Just look at those billowing capes!
Anyone feel like re-watching Coraline with me? (I don’t want to do it alone.)
