We love General Leia. Like, full stop. So we’re super freakin’ excited about this announcement that she’ll be appearing in Disney XD’s Star Wars Rebels series. Yeah, I know, right?!

Rebels takes place before the events of A New Hope, and Leia’s episode will focus on her time growing into becoming the badass hero of the Rebellion she is now. Executive Producer Dave Filoni explained the decision behind bringing her into the series, saying:

We thought we had an opportunity to show her learning to be a leader, experimenting with the personality that becomes the stronger more resolute character you see in A New Hope.

One of the complex challenges of depicting Leia in Rebels is that we have to remind the audience that at this point she is part of the Empire. She doesn’t believe in the Empire, but she is acting the part, almost a double agent.

Filoni has a great point about Leia’s loyalties, and how they portray her as a double agent will no doubt be incredibly fascinating. Frankly, the thought of seeing Leia pre-ANH alone is enough to get me to tune in, so anything else is pretty much icing on top.

The only downer about this is that Carrie Fisher won’t be voicing the animated Leia. Alas. She’ll instead be voiced by Julie Dolan, who voiced Leia in the Star Wars: Uprising mobile video game. You can check out her work in this launch trailer for Uprising. She comes in at 1:11.

So, tell us. Will you be tuning in to catch Rebels for this episode?
