Spoilers for Thor: The Dark World if you were waiting for the DVD (but whatever, you know we don’t care) — remember that great cameo Chris Evans had as Loki pretending to be Captain America? As luck would have it, there’s now also footage that’s been released of Tom Hiddleston wearing the stars and stripes himself.
As Hiddleston explained in an interview with the Empire podcast, they initially shot the scene with him and showed the footage to Chris Evans, who incorporated it into the performance that eventually made it into the film. So basically, Hiddleston did an impression of Evans, and then Evans did an impression of Hiddleston doing an impression of him. It’s all very confusing for our brains to watch, but other movies have done it, too; for example, there’s that scene in Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2 where Hermione takes on Bellatrix Lestrange’s form, and to do that, Helena Bonham Carter had to pretend to be Emma Watson pretending to be Helena.
What we’re most stuck on, though, is why they needed Hiddleston to wear the suit in order to do the part, since it was not really intended to be seen by anyone except Evans. For the lighting? To get into character better? We don’t know, but we suspect that it was Tom’s idea and that he mostly just wanted to wear the suit because it sounds like fun. You know, since he’s the type of person to also do this:
There don’t seem to be any plans to bring Hiddleston back into the Marvel cinematic universe just yet, but we would love to see him in some other costumes, too. A Loki Widow, anyone? Or perhaps a Hawkloki? Heck, Tom’s probably got both of those in his closet already. Do it for the fans, Hiddles!
