It may be no secret that I fall on the side of excitement when it comes to my Black Panther coverage, but I can’t help it; every bit of news that has come out of this film is suffusing my very being with joy and delight.
From the confirmation that the movie would be directed by the fabulous Ryan Coogler to actor Michael B. Jordan being tapped to join the cast as Black Panther’s adversary, there’s been no such thing as a bad announcement regarding the Black Panther solo film–except that we have to wait until 2018 to see it.
At the Marvel-centric Comic-Con panel yesterday, Kevin Feige brought out Coogler along with star Chadwick Boseman, Jordan, and two new additions to the cast–Lupita Nyong’o and The Walking Dead‘s Danai Gurira.
Nyong’o’s role was confirmed as that of Nakia, a member of T’Challa’s personal guard called the Dora Milaje (although her name is linked to one that has a very vast history in the Black Panther comic books), and Gurira will be playing Okoye, the leader of the Dora Milaje. The identity of Jordan’s villain was confirmed as Erik Killmonger, who is described as Black Panther’s nemesis.
The announced cast members took a group photo together, and all I can say is YAS:
