Idris Elba will be reprising his role as detective John Luther in the BBC police procedural Luther. His return will be featured in a one-night special in December. Fans of the show have been clamoring for more Luther since it left airwaves in 2013, so it’ll be good to see the hard-boiled Sherlock-meets-Dr. House detective on screen again.

This special finds Luther on leave from the force, hiding out in a cottage—that is, until he’s found by two colleagues, neither of which have appeared on Luther before: Detective Chief Inspector Theo Bloom (Darren Boyd) and Detective Sergeant Emma Lane (Rose Leslie). They’re investigating a series of murders involving a cannibal, and … well, let’s just say that this all sounds incredibly Luther-esque.

Expect to see this special when it comes to BBC America on December 17th at 9pm EST/PST. Get excited.
