She knows how to use a bow and everything!
As you may recall, Columbia Tri-Star subsidiary Screen Gems is producing a screen adaptation of Naughty Dog’s award-winning game The Last of Us. At yesterday’s Screen Gems panel at SDCC, Sam Raimi (who’s producing) and Neil Druckmann (Naughty Dog’s creative director and writer) confirmed that they’ve met with Maisie Williams (aka Arya Stark) regarding the role of Ellie. The panelists also mentioned that the film is going to be heavily focused on the relationship between Joel and Ellie (as it rightly should be). Personally, I can’t think of a better choice than Williams. You need someone young, scrappy, and with the performance chops to carry that character. She’s perfect.
Now, the film’s still in early development, so there’s nothing officially official about this. Williams hasn’t signed on, and they haven’t even chosen a director yet. Still, I’m content imagining a horrible, fungus-filled future in which everybody’s favorite highborn killer picks off Infected and tells awful jokes.
