Earlier this month, we learned that Vixen would be a series regular on Season 2 of The CW’s Legend of Tomorrow, but that Megalyn Echikunwoke, who had previously played Vixen on the series, would need to be recast due to scheduling conflicts.
Now, Deadline reports that Maisie Richardson-Sellers will take on the Vixen mantle. Richardson-Sellers has previously been seen in The CW’s The Originals, and had a minor part as Korr Sella in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Richardon-Sellers’ role in the film was originally more significant, as indicated by the novelization of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but she only appears briefly in the final cut).
Luckily, The CW doesn’t intend to replace Echikunwoke entirely. Deadline writes,
Richardson-Sellers will be playing Amaya Jiwe, grandmother to Echikunwoke’s Mari Jiwe McCabe. The twist will allow Echikunwoke to continue to voice the character on the online animated Arrowverse spinoff Vixen, and may possibly leave the door open to a cross-generational team up later down the line.
A grandma/daughter Vixen team-up would be badass. Who’s excited to see more of Richardson-Sellers?
