A man and his son (Din Djarin and Grogu) hanging out, on Disney+'s The Mandalorian Star Wars series.

‘The Mandalorian’ Season 3 Has Wrapped but What Can We Expect From It?

Star Wars’ live-action hit The Mandalorian hasn’t been on our television screens for quite some time. That doesn’t mean we haven’t gotten our fill of Din Djarin, though. In The Book of Boba Fett, we got a glimpse at what Mando was doing after season 2, as he was trying to learn how to wield the Darksaber. But when his friend Boba Fett needed him, he was ready to help—only after taking a visit to see his son, of course.

What was surprising was that the spinoff show quickly turned from Boba Fett establishing his rule on Tatooine to a setup for the next season of The Mandalorian, and with that came the reunion of Grogu and Din. We all thought season 3 would take us on a journey of Din Djarin searching for Grogu, but that theory has now gone out the window.

According to Carl Weathers, who plays Greef Karga on the show, they wrapped filming season 3, and with that comes the obvious question: Where is this season going to take Mando now that he’s back with Grogu and the king of Mandalore?

Now what?

What I personally thought was going to happen was that we would see Din trying to figure out what being the ruler of Mandalore meant and, in doing so, he would try and come to terms with the fact that Grogu was training with Luke. Eventually, Grogu would finish his training and return to Din’s side, but it would take some time.

What actually happened was that Grogu was too connected to his dad, to the point that he was constantly letting his emotions cloud his training, and it was made worse when Din went to where Luke was training Grogu and tried to give him armor made from Beskar. At that point, Luke made Grogu chose, and, as we saw at the end of The Book of Boba Fett, Grogu chose to be with Din Djarin.

So, now that we’re not going to have a season of the two trying to live without each other, we’re back to square one with where season 3 could be heading. Personally, I don’t think the battle for Mandalore is over yet or that Bo-Katan isn’t going to just let Din take Mandalore easily. There is plenty going on in the galaxy that they have to deal with, and while we briefly met the other Mandalorians in season 2, there’s plenty to unpack there as Din explores his religious trauma and sees what lies he’s been told about his creed from the beginning.

Taking all of that into consideration, there’s plenty of places The Mandalorian season 3 can take us, and all of it is exciting not only for the characters we’ve come to love, but also the world of Star Wars as a whole, as we continue to flesh out the world of The Mandalorian with new characters and those who made the jump from animated Star Wars into live action. It’s just now a mystery to us all where we’re heading, given how Grogu and Din are back together sooner than expected on his new ship.
