It’s not like a regular app. It’s a cool app. Who wants a humpday treat?
While So Much Drama’s upcoming iOS app isn’t the first Mean Girls game in existence—there’s also Mean Girls High School Showdown, which is a tile-matching puzzle game loosely inspire by the 2004 film, and the Nintendo DS game that… well, appears to have once existed—so far this one looks surprisingly true to its source material. You know, save for the fact that I’m pretty sure Lindsay Lohan’s quest to overthrow the Plastics clique didn’t actually involve collecting all the pieces of the Spring Fling tiara by brutally decimating your opponents.
Billed as a “Tiara Defense” game, Mean Girls will offer you the chance to play as one of eight iconic characters—Cady, Regina, Gretchen, Karen, Janis, Damian, Aaron, and Kevin—in a showdown against a new wave of plastics. Each character has their own unique ability, and there’s also a multiplayer function that allows you to invite your Facebook friends to join in.
“Mean Girls is hilarious, brutal, and endlessly quotable; I absolutely loved watching and re-watching the film,” So Much Drama founder Jeff Meador said. His studio, by the way, is also responsible for RuPaul’s Drag Race: Dragopolis. “The [Mean Girls] game is rich with the quirky humor, over-the-top high school power struggles, and everything from hilarious lines, peppermint foot cream, to, yes, the Burn Book.”
The game will be available sometime early this year, and its unclear as of now whether you’ll have to pay for it, or if it will take after the “freemium” model. Either way, it’ll be totally fetch. This is the year fetch happens, people.
