This screen-shot allegedly from Konami’s Comic Con demo was found on Reddit this morning and the rumors and speculations have been running up and down the halls of the Internet like a toddler who doesn’t want to get in the bathtub. Folks have been calling this the confirmation that Kojima’s fabled “Project Ogre” is another iteration of the Metal Gear Solid franchise. Are these speculations to be believed? Is this just another rumor that will be debunked and fall into oblivion? Read on, my friends, read on!
You can’t miss the loud, proud “METAL GEAR SOLID 5” in the center of the image; the other pieces of text are a little harder to read, however. The cut-off subtitle reads, “The moment we were cast out of heaven, we became monsters.” The even smaller text above the title reads “Open Ground Reconnaissance Endeavor,” the initials of which, of course, spell out “OGRE.” Konami UK seemed receptive to the rumors and even a bit amused when they tweeted:
Fake or real, we love a bit of speculation! #ogre #mgs5buzz.mw/-7lD_y
— Konami UK (@KonamiUK) July 16, 2012
Only 10 minutes later, however, Konami UK tweeted again:
Seriously, just in case the #pinch #salt hashtags weren’t enough – the chap who claims to have set up the fake rumours has been in touch. — Konami UK (@KonamiUK) July 16, 2012
Rumor debunked, right? Well, there is still room for a bit of speculation. Konami UK neither mentions which of the many rumors are false nor do they reveal the “chap” who started it all. The whole thing seems a little too vague and convoluted to rule out any possibilities just yet. It would be a safe bet, however, to assume that this screenshot (as well as the others we’ve seen) are either taken out of context or faked altogether. I doubt that we will be hearing much from Konami regarding Metal Gear or “Project Ogre” for a while.
