Tim Burton and Michael Keaton teaming up is usually a good time, and that’s showcased in their work on Batman, Batman Returns, and of course, Beetlejuice. Now, we might be heading back to Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice’s world with some of the iconic cast in tow.
In an exclusive from journalist Jeff Sneider, he reports that Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B is set to produce a sequel to the 1988 film Beetlejuice and that Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton are set to reprise their roles as Beetlejuice and Lydia Deetz for it. It hasn’t gotten the green light yet from Warner Bros., but the idea of a Beetlejuice sequel is … interesting.
This isn’t the first time that Keaton’s coming back to a beloved ’80s role. In fact, he’s stepping back into the role of Bruce Wayne and Batman (which was directed by Tim Burton, as well) in the upcoming The Flash and Batgirl. So, coming back to Beetlejuice is not too surprising for him, and it is exciting despite a Beetlejuice sequel being wholly unnecessary.
The thing is that the end of this movie was pretty set. We got it. Lydia got to be happy, and Beetlejuice wasn’t in the world of the living. So, going back to this story feels strange and like we’re just trying to grasp at anything that will get people to see a movie. That being said, it’d be nice to see Keaton and Ryder back together again. It’s just a story that doesn’t really need continuing.
