Mindy Kaling was on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert alongside Tituss Burgess and Ken Burns where the two talked about Colbert’s appearance on The Mindy Project. During Colbert’s break between The Colbert Report and his current show, Kaling approached him for a role—adding him to the show’s impressive list of guest stars. The episode, titled “Confessions of a Catho-holic,” features a bearded Colbert as Catholic priest Father Michael O’Donnell who takes over when the old priest dies.
Colbert gushes about how much he enjoyed the role, saying, “it was one of the most fun I’ve had on any set, anywhere!” before Kaling bursts his bubble, telling him, “I do not think you were very professional when you came on my show” and plays a few outtakes of Colbert giggling through his eulogy. A man is dead, Colbert! Not that we blame him—Kaling’s script is hilarious.
In the episode, Father Mike also pays a visit to Mindy and her boyfriend’s house, where the two have to hide the fact they’re together. Colbert had his own “unprofessional” clips of Mindy acting outside the script. So I guess the moral of the story is don’t… attack your coworkers?
