Hamilton has made concerted efforts to be more accessible than the average Broadway show, but countless fans, even those based in New York, still won’t be able to afford a ticket to the history-making musical.
In light of that, the Hamilton cast made a trip down to Washington, D.C. this week where they were introduced by President Obama before giving a live-streamed performance of the show at the White House. As Obama said in his introduction, yesterday’s show was an attempt to make Hamilton available to people who can’t “score a ticket to a popular Broadway show,” because “it’s a story about all of us, and for all of us.” You can watch the performance below (Obama’s introduction and the actual show begins at around the 43 minute mark).
Lin Manuel-Miranda and the POTUS also spent some time freestyling in the White House Rose Garden.
