Marc and Steven talking to each other in Moon Knight

Dream Journal: ‘Moon Knight’ Episode 4 Twists What We Know

Marvel’s Moon Knight episode four started out as a continuation of where we left off with Marc, Steven, and Layla last week. Layla is trying to get Marc and Steven to safety after the gods imprisoned Khonshu, and in her quest, the two come in contact once again with Arthur Harrow.

The episode is filled with moments of clarity for Layla, Marc, and Steven as they are forced to confront their past. Marc’s arm is twisted in more ways than one. Steven is telling Layla the truth about what is happening between him and Marc and what he was promised by Marc, Harrow is telling Layla that Marc was responsible for the death of her father, and everything seems almost completely out of his hands.

But what really got interesting was the end of the episode.

**Spoilers for Moon Knight episode 4 lie ahead.**

After Steven and Layla find the lost tomb of Alexander the Great, Harrow finds them, and Marc is fighting off his men before Harrow suddenly pulls a gun on Marc. Shooting him, Harrow says that he can’t help someone who isn’t willing to help himself, and Marc is descending into the water around the tomb before he seems to descend further into a different reality.

That reality is an asylum where Marc, Steven, and Layla are all there as patients, with Harrow seemingly there their doctor. It’s just the last few moments of the episode, so it’s a bit of a chaotic run through this new place for Marc, as he’s trying to understand what’s happening to him at the same time we are, as the audience, but it also does give some quick nods to other characters.

Was that Jake again?

There’s another room with a moving tomb that neither Steven nor Marc tries to deal with, and that could be another reference to Jake Lockley. In the comics, there are three alters, and in the third episode of the season, we did get a moment where both Steven and Marc didn’t have control of their body, making it seem as if Jake was fronting without either of them knowing.

But after Marc finds Steven and the two hug, and they see a moving tomb and leave it alone? That, to me at least, makes it seem like that is another reference to Jake coming sooner rather than later. But they also have some more important questions to get answered first, like “Who is this hippo god they run into?”

Who is Taweret?

Taweret is the Egyptian Goddess of childbirth and fertility. Portrayed by Antonia Salib in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we don’t know that much about her other than she very sweetly says “Hi” to Steven and Marc, and they promptly scream at her. She appears in the last few moments, and we just get to see what she looks like.

So, how she’ll play into Moon Knight as a whole is going to be something for us to discover later on, but with how sweet she seemed right out the gate? I have a feeling she’s going to help Marc and Steven get back to Khonshu.

This now sets up an incredibly interesting rest of the season, and now we just have a lot more questions.
