The MTV Movie Awards have bestowed award nominations on a lot of movies that got left out of the Oscars, from Star Wars: The Force Awakens to Creed to Deadpool to Straight Outta Compton. (Okay, so Deadpool didn’t come out in time for the Oscars submission date, but still.) Those four, along with a few other familiar titles, are up for MTV’s “Best Movie of the Year” award, as well as several others. Interestingly, Mad Max: Fury Road didn’t make it into that category, although it does appear elsewhere.

Annnnd that’s a wrap! Even if you don’t necessarily agree with all of these nominations (Jurassic World and Age of Ultron over Fury Road for Best Movie? Really???), it’s still cool to see these picks in contrast to the 2016 Oscar line-up. Of course, the Academy Awards have very different standards and a different cut-off date for submissions, but it’s still interesting to see where these choices overlap … and where they don’t.

By the way, The Rock and Kevin Hart are hosting this year’s MTV Movie Awards, which is either good news or bad news depending on how you feel about their comedic stylings.

Are you planning to tune in on April 10th? What do you think of MTV’s picks for nominees?
