Last night the season finale of Mythbusters aired, and it ended with a surprise message from hosts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman. In the above video Savage and Hyneman announce that their “Build Team,” comprised of Kari Byron, Grant Imahara, and Tory Belleci, are leaving the show. It’s a bit of a surprise for fans.
The reason given in the video is that the show is going back to its “origins” with just Savage and Hyneman. The outgoing team made similarly vague announcements on Twitter last night.
I guess you guys are finding out the news right about now.

The show is taking a new direction. It was an amazing run. I learned so much about myself and the world. I love you all @MythBusters

Thanks @MythBusters for allowing us to teach science in a whole new way. Also, explosions. Now, on to the next adventure!

It’s been an amazing ride for 10 years! We couldn’t have done it without you guys. You’re the best fans anyone could wish for. Thank you

It’s unclear exactly what the reasons for the change were or where the three will be going, but they’re all fairly active outside the context of Mythbusters as well. Byron recently hosted a panel discussion with Chelsea Clinton about STEM-based education for girls. Whatever the three of them do next, it’s probably safe to say that their fans will follow. We know we will.
If you’d like to take a look back, Discovery has put up an online retrospective of the team’s work over the last decade.
Best of luck, you three.
