NASA Fact Checks The Martian, Compares Real Life to Science Fiction

NASA’s been all up in the news lately. After announcing they’ve found water on Mars, it looks like they decided to also have a little fun with folks as they ran down a bunch of comparisons between real life and the box office hitThe Martian.

It’s a pretty neat side-by-side post showing real life photos of NASA facilities, its mission spaces, and comparing them with how they were imagined in The Martian. Given the book’s solid base of science and physics, it’s unsurprising that there are some striking similarities. Take a look for yourself below.

Personally, I’m glad that everyone’s taking a newfound interest in space exploration. The Martian is, in some small way, helping raise people’s gaze back up towards the stars, and that makes me so incredibly happy. NASA knows how important it is to capitalize on the popularity of this movie. Let’s hope the awareness turns into something for their funding sometime soon.
