Let’s play a game of “Does this actress have insider knowledge or is she working off the same rumors as the rest of us?”

In an interview with SciFiNow Thor actress Natalie Portman had something to say that dovetails with the rumors that Marvel is seriously considering a superheroine flick:

“There are definitely many strong women [in Marvel movies], but it will be exciting when there is a central female character, which I think is coming—I have heard is coming—and, of course, also a central non-white character will also be exciting. Title characters.”

She may have “heard” there’s a central female character coming the same way we’ve “heard” there’s a central female character coming… or maybe some plans have been mentioned around her. When Marvel execs have started being more and more open about the fact that, yeah, tons of people want to see a female-led superhero movie, so maybe they should tap that market, the latter option certainly doesn’t seem outside the realm of possibility.

But assuming for the sake of argument Portman does know something, which is by no means a sure thing: Is this character Captain Marvel or someone else? When Portman says “a central non-white character will also be exciting,” is that just a generic statement or an implication that she’s heard something about a POC superhero movie, maybe the long-rumored Black Panther?

Damn you and your secrecy, comic book movies!
