One of the ways nerds/geeks and everything in between express their love within fandom is by getting nerdy tattoos. Our intrepid social media maven Rachel Leishman came up with the idea that we should go through the process of getting our own nerdy tattoos from a local shop that features a diverse selection of artists, which led to our collaboration with West4Tattoos.

Located in New York’s West Village, West 4 Tattoo provides professional, top-quality tattoos and piercings. It also features a lot of amazing male and female tattoo artists, including artists of color. The artist we will be working with is named Tony and his work is spectacular.

We are super excited to be talking to you guys about this new tattoo experience, and on Tuesday we will be recording our consultation on The Mary Sue Instagram so feel free to come in with your questions. You guys will be with us as we see these new beauties for the first time and speak to the artists behind them and his creative design process.

I (Princess) will be getting a nerdy mythology based tattoo surrounding the myths of Medea and Ariadne, while Rachel will be getting a tattoo based on one of her favorite feel-good movies starring a certain Winter Soldier actor. We will do a follow-up post going into why we picked the tattoos and what they will be meaning to us, in addition to discussing the tattoos we already have and why we picked them.

Sadly, there can still be a lot of stigma around tattoos, when the reality is that tattoos are just another form of self-expression. For me, they have been a way of making my body feel more whole and more mine in a way that gives me peace of mind. Also, they make me feel good. I’m happy to have a piece of Sailor Moon on my body forever.

Let us know about some of your favorite tattoos and some that others of you would get if you weren’t afraid of needles!? Tune in Tuesday afternoon on our Instagram to get a look at the designs.
