Sadly, it will have missed the Halloween season when it debuts on December 1, but Netflix’s Dark looks like some wonderfully creepy time travel shenanigans, and its trailer feels right at home in the current spooky season. And if you’re picking up Stranger Things vibes, the new show’s creators are more than happy to encourage the comparison.

Not only does the German crime story focus on the disappearance of some kids, but there’s definitely more going on than meets the eye. It’s already premiered at Toronto International Film Festival to some pretty good reviews, even if it feels like it was intentionally geared to play off of existing success.

From the trailer, it looks like it leans into being a bit darker than some of its inspiration, which could help to set it apart. I, for one, welcome supernatural thriller/horror as the new entertainment trend everyone is trying to get in on.
