Yes, yes, we all know that the new iPad unveiling was as really big deal. However, it appears that it was a bigger deal than even Apple anticipated as the consumer electronics maker has completely sold out of its pre-order stock. What’s more, the delivery date has slipped on pre-orders from March 16 to March 19. This news has no doubt ruined someone’s day.
According to USA Today, Apple was surprised by the demand for the tablet:
“Customer response to the new iPad has been off the charts and the quantity available for pre-order has been purchased,” Apple said in a statement. “Customers can continue to order online and receive an estimated delivery date.”
In addition to the slip in delivery, Apple has paced a limit of two iPads per customer. So if you were planning on getting your octuplets the same present for their birthday, you’re out of luck.
It’s worth noting that on their first day for sale, Apple sold 300,000 iPads and 500,000 iPad 2s respectively. Given that, Apple must have anticipated high demand for the new tablet and no doubt ordered their pre-order stock accordingly. Given that said stock is now spoken for, it seems extremely likely that the newest member of the Apple tablet family is going to set a slew of records once it goes on sale.
