The new Star Trek: Beyond trailer has been released after cast member Simon Pegg tweeted an announcement the day before, giving fans a small heads-up in the process. From the look of this second, considerably revamped trailer–which is set to the film’s score rather than the first trailer’s original music choice of the Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage”–I think this one is going to make more fans a lot happier.

Fan response to the first trailer was definitely mixed–director Justin Lin even gave an interview defending the more unconventional editing approach, and Pegg also chimed in with his opinion that the trailer, while “action-packed”, didn’t do a great job of representing everything that the movie consists of.

This trailer, however, allows us to see that Star Trek: Beyond is definitely not just going to be a Fast and the Furious movie that takes place in space. We get a brief glimpse into where James Kirk’s journey has taken him, and a voiceover provided by Shohreh Aghdashloo reemphasizes the importance of a captain’s ship and crew. We don’t actually get to see her character yet, but I’d recognize her voice anywhere. We do have more of a look at Idris Elba as the baddie Krall, though, and Sofia Boutella as Jaylah.

After this, I’d say my excitement for this movie has been sufficiently renewed. What are your thoughts?
