I didn’t think I needed a robot in my life that would jump out of boxes and alert me to twitter trends while making customized Oreos, but then I watched this video. Unfortunately, there aren’t a lot of available specifics on what Notcot is bafflingly calling the “Oreo 3D Trending Vending Machine Home Edition,” but who cares? Did you see the way it jumped out of that box?
MAYA design explains on Vimeo,
As part of the Trending Vending research initiative we developed a prototype home version of the system based on the Quantified Snack Markup Language (QSML). This is an experiment from our labs focused on bringing 3D printing and robotic manufacturing of snacks directly to your kitchen.
Usually, I would say that cookies provide sufficient joy without a pint-sized robot ambushing me, plus I think humans need to control the Oreo supply for post-singularity collateral. But, this frosting-filled bot has stolen my heart, perhaps because of his mystery. Where did he come from? For good or for evil? What does he have against David Lynch?
MAYA promises Vimeo commenters that their tricky little creation is real. However, he’s not available for purchase—yet. Oreo, we’re a tech website with an obvious sweet tooth. Did our cookie robot get lost in the mail? #hurt.
