Looks like the apocalypse needs canceling a second time: The Pacific Rim sequel has crawled its way out of limbo and will officially be bashing up theaters in April 2017. And what’s more: New comics! And an animated series! Are you excited?!?!
The news comes courtesy of a video released by Guillermo del Totoro, in which he explains:
“From now until April 2017, we’re gonna develop a new animated series for Pacific Rim, continue the comic book series we started with [Tales from] Year Zero, and most importantly, creating a sequel for the film. I’m working on this with Zak Penn and Travis Beacham, and we are all very happy to be bringing you more Kaiju, more Jaegers, kicking each others butts.”
You can see the whole video at the bottom of this post. I don’t need to tell you that we’re pretty excited around these parts. People who wanted a Pacific Rim prequel: You get comics! People who wanted a sequel: The movie is actually happening instead of del Toro working on it and just hoping that Legendary will decide to pick it up because it made so much money overseas, I guess. Under a deal with Legendary, Pacific Rim 2 is moving from Universal to Warner Bros.. So this is one post where I don’t have anything snarky to say about Warner Bros., holy crap.
