Piers Morgan interviews Donald Trump as they both look upset.

Piers Morgan vs. Donald Trump Is Peak ‘Let Them Fight’

British TV personality and professional right-wing troll Piers Morgan quit his job on Good Morning Britain last year, storming off mid-show in spectacular snowflake fashion after getting pushback for rude comments he made about Meghan Markle. Now he has a new show on the way and it’s clear that the only thing he has to offer audiences is more manufactured drama.

For days, Morgan has been teasing the “sensational jaw-dropping” guest he has scheduled for his first episode, which he says “will make global news for days.”

That guest turned out to be Donald Trump and the first promo released for the interview is beyond ridiculous. It features the two oddly shiny men arguing, interrupting each other in a way that you can tell would be cross-talk if it weren’t so heavily edited with close to two dozen quick cuts crammed into the 30-second spot. It shows Morgan pressing Trump on his baseless claims that the 2020 presidential election was rigged, to which—as the promo’s narrative presents the events—Trump responds by calling Morgan “very dishonest” and “not real” before appearing to cut the interview short and storm out.

All the ensuing headlines about the clip centered around Trump leaving the interview. Then, later Wednesday, Trump released a statement claiming the interview was “unlawfully and deceptively [edited],” and released his own audio of the interview.

NBC News writes:

“That was a great interview,” Morgan says in the audio at the end.

Trump agrees with a “yeah.”

“Thank you very much. I really appreciate it,” Morgan says.

That’s when Trump says, “Turn the camera off.” By then, the former president had already risen from his chair, according to his communications director, Taylor Budowich, who supplied the audio to NBC News.

HuffPost adds that the audio recording “captures the pair laughing later during the interview as they discussed golf.”

I literally could not care less about who here is telling the truth, in part because the answer is probably neither of them. Piers Morgan vs. Trump is the ultimate “let them fight.” Rolling Stone nailed it with their headline, “Hack Interviews Liar.” There’s a very good chance that both men are in on this charade because the only way either of them could “make global news for days,” as Morgan claimed he would,” is to completely manufacture some unnecessary drama.

This is only the first episode of the show—which is called, I kid you not, Piers Morgan Uncensored—and already the only way they can attract an audience is by heavily censoring and manipulating an interview. No one could have expected anything different.
