Mary Suevians, we’ve got an update for your fall reading list! The Reader, by Traci Chee, kicks off the Sea of Ink and Gold series on September 13. It’s “set in a world where reading is unheard-of” and tells the story of Sefia and her quest to rescue her aunt, who taught her valuable survival skills, with the help of a book, but you don’t have to let us sway you; you can win your own copy (and some nifty bonuses) right here.
One winner will snag a copy of The Reader, courtesy of Penguin Random House, as well as a tote bag and a $100 Visa gift card “to keep building your book collection”—or to construct the perfect reading nook or whatever else you have in mind. Check it out:
The Reader synopsis: “Sefia knows what it means to survive. After her father is brutally murdered, she flees into the wilderness with her aunt Nin, who teaches her to hunt, track, and steal. But when Nin is kidnapped, leaving Sefia completely alone, none of her survival skills can help her discover where Nin’s been taken, or if she’s even alive. The only clue to both her aunt’s disappearance and her father’s murder is the odd rectangular object her father left behind, an object she comes to realize is a book—a marvelous item unheard of in her otherwise illiterate society. With the help of this book, and the aid of a mysterious stranger with dark secrets of his own, Sefia sets out to rescue her aunt and find out what really happened the day her father was killed—and punish the people responsible.
With overlapping stories of swashbuckling pirates and merciless assassins, The Reader is a brilliantly told adventure from an extraordinary new talent.”
So now that your interest has been piqued, how do you win? The rules are simple: Make sure you follow us on Twitter (so we can DM you if you’re the winner) and tweet the following verbatim:
I’m entering @TheMarySue’s giveaway for #TheReader by @tracichee because #IAmTheReader! https://www.themarysue.com/reader-book-one-giveaway/
We’ll collect the Twitter handles of everyone who tweets and randomly select a winner on Thursday, August 25. The drawing is open to anyone, but the prize must be shipped to an address in the United States. Happy reading!
