Some Nintendo fans have banded together to bring their very specific new character desire to the upcoming Super Smash Bros. producer Masahiro Sakurai’s attention: Nintendo of America’s President and COO, Reggie Fils-Aime. They’ve started both a petition and a Twitter trend to get him in the game. No Iwata petition? Come on guys, step it up.
Fils-Aime (pronounced fees-uh-may for those still unsure) has become a gaming icon ever since he took the stage at Nintendo’s 2006 E3 press conference. His regular one-liners and PR stunts have wooed some Nintendo fans and made other gamers watch him the way they might watch Honey Boo Boo. When a fan posed the question to Fils-Aime on Jimmy Fallon, Reggie was totally on board with the idea, but said that in order to make it happen, the fans would need to ask Sakurai. And so the petition and tweets to put the big man into the game began.
Currently, the petition has over 7,600 signatures. You can add yours to the list right now if you want, or tweet to @Sora_Sakurai with the hashtag #ReggieforSmashBros to make your voice heard. It’s highly unlikely that this would happen, but I would settle for Reggie’s face being on a purple Pikmin 1 out of 100 times when Olimar picks one up. Now, if you’ll excuse me, all this Reggie talk is making me hungry for French food.
