While Radiohead may have attempted to delete themselves from the Internet early last month, suspicions about their reasoning were officially confirmed when they released their new LP shortly thereafter. Since then, the band has been subverting pretty much every music industry rule by releasing standard-length music videos in tandem with small vignettes and short clips set to their own music via Instagram.
Richard Ayoade, who many fans are already familiar with from his turns on The IT Crowd and The Big Fat Quiz Show, has also been spending some time behind the camera lately–he directed Jesse Eisenberg and Mia Wasikowska in The Double, a film he also wrote, and now he’s directed this latest clip for Radiohead, set to their song “Tinker Tailor Soldier Sailor Rich Man Poor Man Beggar Man Thief”. You can watch the small vignette below–it feels very Fringe-y and creepy:
Now that Instagram allows users to post even longer videos, could this turn into a more widely-recognized means for artists to deliver their musical content to fans? Either way, I am really into this short vid–even if I don’t want to watch it too many times.
