Bates Motel is set to come to an end in its fifth and final season–and it’s going to go out in classic Psycho style. The only way to do that, however, is to cast someone in the role of the fated Marion Crane, who was originally and memorably brought to life by Janet Leigh. Playing the part in Bates Motel, however, is Rihanna! The pop singer (and recent contributor to the Star Trek Beyond soundtrack) posted an announcement regarding her casting:
In a statement made to The Hollywood Reporter, Bates Motel EPs Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehren said that Rihanna’s casting was all a result of mutual love:
“We wanted to thrust the iconic role into a contemporary spotlight and redefine it in a meaningful and exciting new way. We also heard Rihanna was a fan of the show, and we were huge fans of hers, so it was the perfect collision of creativity and fate.”
Between Ri-Ri’s role in Valerian, her Star Trek track and now this? It feels like it’s beginning to shape up to be the year of Rihanna in pop culture, and I am not opposed one single bit.
