Riverdale returned this week with the much-anticipated musical episode that revolves around a production of Carrie: The Musical. Did you sort of forget, amongst all the murdering and mob plot lines that one of Archie’s defining characteristics in season 1 was his musical aspirations? Yeah, me too. The show really loves its musical numbers, from all the Josie and the Pussycats performances and that pretty uncomfortable strip show, so a musical episode seemed inevitable—and is there any better way to do that than with Carrie?

The songs from the episode are streaming on Spotify now, and fans noticed quickly a bonus feature that quickly blew up: a reprise of “You Shine” sung by Cheryl Blossom and Toni Topaz, Riverdale’s newest same-sex couple that’s been winning our hearts since the two went to see Love, Simon together.

Don’t get me wrong, watching Betty and Veronica sing the song to each other as they reconciled was a sweet gift. But Toni literally just saved Cheryl from a gay conversion therapy institute last episode where they had a cinematic and wonderful first kiss! Why not let them embrace the happiness of their new relationship a bit more with a love duet? Here’s the song:

You can watch the version with Betty, Archie, and Veronica here:

Madelaine Petsch has confirmed in an interview that Cheryl is currently staying with Toni (observant fans have noticed her wearing Toni’s clothes in scenes) and that a scene where she explicitly calls Toni her “girlfriend” was cut, a fact that was disappointing to some fans on social media. Hopefully we’ll be seeing more of Choni!
