In general I’m not a fan of pranks, particularly ones that put the prank-ee in an initially uncomfortable position or require them to feign enthusiasm in front of a crowd, but considering the bride and groom’s history of being epic Rock fans, I’m tentatively on board for this one. Besides, what says “true love” more than a ceremony filled with earthquake metaphors?
Screen Junkies’ Nick Mundy first hit it off with The Rock in 2013 at a Pain & Gain press junket, and was later requested by Johnson as an interviewer for Furious 7 and Hercules. Mundy described the wedding surprise to The Hollywood Reporter, saying
My first thought was ‘Oh shit, oh shit. I hope Dilara [animator and Mundy’s now-wife Dilara Karabas] is cool with this. The second one was, ‘I have hat hair, I’m sweating and wearing American flag pants.’ And then my best man and writing partner threw my jacket on me, and the next thing I know, The Rock was walking me down the aisle and the music was starting and I signed the marriage license. The whole thing was insane.
According to Screen Junkies producer Andy Signore, Karabas was supportive of The Rock’s plan to stealth-marry the couple:
Dwayne was very adamant that Nick’s fiancee Dilara was involved the whole way in every step. That she approved everything. He wanted to make sure that this was her day and not just a silly thing we were doing with Nick. We wouldn’t have done it if Dilara hadn’t really wanted to do this too. So she was super into it and thought it was super fun.
Mundy and Karabas will also be having a ceremony for friends and family later this year.
